LATE BREAKING NEWS: (Reads from bottom to top datewise!) The "FAMILY DIRECTORY" has been removed from the WEB site for security reasons! We will keep it updated and email it or snail mail it if you want it.. just let us know and we will send it right away. July, 2002 Holy Firecrackers Batman, can it be over a year since we updated the family news?? It will be a wonder if anyone EVER checks in with us again. Well, for starters we haven't been anywhere by sea since the May 200l entry. That even shocks us! Since we no longer keep a sea log the dates and events just kind of slide by and become a vague jumble. Of course the most recent developments are putting "Good Grief" up for sale, purchasing a bigger 78' Cheoy Lee Motorsailer to live on and Roger's developing Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, cancer of the lymph system which was diagnosed in May of this year. "Good Grief" has had lots of enthusiastic lookers and a few offers but they happened after 9/11 and it seems to have adversely affected everyone. None of the deals were finalized and the remaining interested parties are still milling around trying to arrange finances and circumstances to go cruising for a while. We are living on "Quixote" and appreciating having more space but would like an opportunity to see how she "goes". Roger says it feels like having a fine tuned Ferrari stuck in traffic. We have not had an opportunity to take her out to sea since her purchase in April of this year. Rogers chemotherapy is coming along very well with no sign of tumors at this stage. There are three courses to go and it will be finished up in October sometime if there are no more delays like the development of shingles which he is just recovering from. The next chemo is scheduled for 8/8 if he is able to make it. The "chicken pox" look is about gone but the nerve pain is still debilitating. He is still taking prescription pain med for it every day and night or he doesn't sleep well. He is still as courageous as can be and tries his best to be a good patient, which in turn helps me to be a better "nurse". We are still focused on just getting through this and getting on with things. Just a matter of time and determination and we have both. Of course the real credit goes to all of you who are such faithful supporters by way of prayers and encouragement. You may never know just how much it means and how much it helps but we can't thank you enough!! Here is what I know in the way of family news: Regan has a very cute website and
Rogers c MAY, 2001 Hi Everybody, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO OUR
TAWNY-GIRL! HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO DONNA AND CHUCK!! MARCH 20 - No sign of March going out like a lamb as yet! We are still pinned down in Port Canaveral awaiting a good weather spell to last long enough for us to get to Key largo where we have a safe dock reserved by friends Al and Scarlett whom we met in Venezuela. They belong to the Ocean Reef Club there and have a condo and 80' dock. If the storm fromts will just slow down we will make a break for it! It looks like we may be able to pull the plug on Thursday the 22nd. Needless to say we are all ready and champing at the bit... We will send a final bi bi email once we are sure we are out the door! Scurry news is that Grandpa survived a bout of pneumonia and is slowly regaining some ground he lost! What an amazing guy! Of course he is still terribly weak and has a long way to go but he is well enough to express approval of his NEW caregiver.. Cher turned out to not be a match.. so hold a good thought that the new gal will fare better!! The relief man works the weekends and that gives her some time off so maybe this plan will work out better. Please remember them all in your prayers!! We are so blessed to have Pat and Barb in charge!! Not much else new.. haven't heard the race results from Jay and Stacy nor how Kyrsten's Beach Reach is going. Thanks to all of you who helped her cause with your donations.. now don't forget the knee mails! Can't wait to post the details.... stay tuned!
MARCH 16/23 - Jay's daughter Kyrie is spending her Spring Break on the mission described in the February 12 entry. We all join with you in spirit Kyribear ..and we anticipate a great success. Have fun and God bless!! MARCH 13 - Richard, Jay and Jef's father, will celebrate his 68th birthday in Potlatch, Idaho. MARCH 12 - In Scurry, Donna's son Chance turns 10. Have a great one, Chance! MARCH 11 - The Captain celebrate turning 55.. and I am tolerating no complaining ..seems pretty young compared to 65!! MARCH 3 or 4 or so...We leave our snug harbor and head out in the Atlantic going south along the Florida coast. We will just take it easy and stop where it is convenient all along the way to Key West. Then across to Cuba and back up through the Bahamas and back here before the hurricanes get here. We are looking forward to it.. we have been in the marina so long we feel like "dirt dwellers"!! MARCH EVENTS!! I am putting them in now because once go cruising we will not have easy internet access! For the April, May June and July events check the Family Directory link. FEBRUARY 26 - 11 th Birthday of VAN THE MAN Roberts! Way to go Vanny! FEBRUARY 25 - Birthday of world's cutest 6 year old.. Bailey Roberts! Have a wonderful day Bai!! FEBRUARY 23 - TC is off to Tortola, BVI to meet with Mr. Tobias who owns some hotels he is considering turning into timeshares. Our Donatello Hotel boss, Mr. Rossi, gave us a good recommendation so R went over to check it out. He will be back late Saturday. If he comes back at all..... just before he left we had the generator guy out to check out a pesky problem and he says it is a rod and maybe the valves. He is trying to get parts for our antique Onan generators and then R will be banished to the engine room for a week or so. To avoid all the swearing I usually just set food and drinks at the door and tiptoe around up top. Invariably he eventually emerges grinning with relief and satisfaction in a job well done and then I hear all about it. It will probably push our planned departure back to mid March sometime. Oh well.. time is what we got!! THANKS, THANKS, THANKS to all of you my dear family for the phone calls, cards, e-cards and present boxes!! It was ALL so nice that it completely took the sting (if not the shock) out of turning 65! The Alpine Deckers report that son Michael had the time of his life when he recently picked out a new dream car. He bought it off the showroom floor and they had to remove a window for him to drive away in his new Boxster Sport!!! Way to go Michael.. you have earned it ...Congratulations and ENJOY!! Pat and Barb report that under Roberts excellent management PBR is ever improving and expanding!! The acquisition of a nearby strip mall has just now been completed. It is fully leased by individual tenants but as their leases expire PBR will take over the spaces to expand their own facility. Robert has worked hard and long to clear the way for expansion and to meet all the regulatory, political and financial requirements. Congratulations on a job well done, Robert!!! With Glenn handling the "nuts and bolts" in the day to day operation they comprise a PBR team that far outranks the comparable competition so the sky is the limit with these two making things happen. I wish they could have heard the pride in their Father's voice as he spoke of them .. and it is no more than they deserve!! At the rate PBR is going it may dominate Dallas just like Milliganville does in Scurry!! FEBRUARY 20 - Birthday of worlds oldest, ugliest and meanest woman...guess who will be 65!! FEBRUARY 19 - The birthday of the Regent King Louis per advice of Queen Reen! FEBRUARY 14 - A very Happy Valentine's Day to all our favorite Valentines..our family!! FEBRUARY 12 - Got a great mailer from Kyrsten about an interesting mission trip she is undertaking! A group from McKinney Memorial (her church) is taking spring break (March 16-23) to go to Panama City FL and by means of a program to give rides, free coffee booth and free pancake breakfast take advantage of the interaction to share the truth and love of God with all who will listen. She needs to raise $350 "buckaroos" (she says) for her portion of the cost. It is a terrific and selfless thing she is doing and goodness knows kids today need SOME good news. If you would like to help her out send a check to McKinney Memorial Bible Church and write "Beach Reach-Kyrsten Roberts" in the memo blank.. then address the envelope to : McKinney Memorial /Beach Reach 3901 South Hulen Fort Worth, TX 76109 She will surely thank you.. I will thank you and best of all God will no doubt repay you "pressed down, shaken together and running over" for your faithfulness! FEBRUARY 12 - Glory hallelujah!! Pat located yet another caregiver for Grandpa!! She seems like a real gem. She is age 50, recovering from breast cancer and a divorce and was living unhappily with a young daughter. She has done some light nursing and also sold Beltone Hearing Aids so old folks don't scare her. In her spare time she designs websites so the long hours and solitude won't bother her. Her name is Cheryl and when I spoke to her on Monday morning she said " This place is paradise!" Join me in sending up knee-mails that she continues to feel that way for a very long time. Pat and Barb are really due for some freedom from a daily grind and maybe we can coax them out to the Bahamas once the dust has settled!! FEBRUARY 09 -The first mate went through yet another test ..a Doppler.. and while it sounds like some kind of weather report it is actually an ultrasound of the upper GI to determine whether there is any circulatory blockage there which may be adding to the colon problem. The last colonosocopy was amazingly normal so this should provide another piece to the puzzle. The results will be in this week sometime. In the meantime I am feeling generally OK if not wonderful ...so perhaps a new diagnosis and treatment regimen will turn the tables for me. EARLY THIS MONTH - Leegee was hospitalized again for the sonic treatment to break up the stone in his kidney. When they looked again they found not one stone but several. The treatment was performed, a shunt installed and home he went. He was back to work after a couple of days and reports that the "sand evidence" indicates a successful event. Hooray!! Should be the last he ever has of it! PS: They now are the proud owners of a new toy! It is a 1937 Ford Coupe, Cherry Tomato Red with an oatmeal and red interior and a powerful "502" engine! Their first pet is a black, three window '33 Ford Coupe with black interior and they frequently go out in one or the other just "lightin' 'em up" at local shows and other events. If we get pictures we'll post them on the web.
